Song Spotlight: Magnet & Steel by Walter Egan was at its peak position of #8 on the Hot 100 on this day in 1976. Born in 1948 in Jamaica, NY, Egan was in a surf band, the Malibooz, that was popular on the east coast, 1964-66. With the addition of lead singer Annie McLoone and other new members, the band evolved into a country-rock group, Sageworth. In 1972 Egan moved to Los Angeles and began performing with such artists as Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne. Egan signed with Columbia in 1976. His first album was produced by Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, who sang harmony on several tracks. They also sang on Magnet & Steel, which was written by Egan and appeared on his second album. It reached #8 on the Hot 100 and #18 on the adult contemporary chart.
